Dear CCISD Supporter:
The Clear Creek Education Foundation’s 8th annual “Reach
for the Stars” Gala will be held on Saturday, October 4,
2008 at Space Center Houston. This great event honors
outstanding Clear Creek Independent School District alumni
graduates. Proceeds from the gala help to fund the
following programs: Teacher Innovative Instructional
Grants, Synergistic Career Exploration Labs,
National
Teacher Board Certification, and
Clear Horizon’s Early
College Campus.
Since 1992, the Foundation has awarded grants worth over
$510,000 to CCISD teachers. The grants directly benefit
students in all grade levels in the Clear Creek Independent
School District. Teachers are able to implement
instructional programs with these grants that enrich the
classroom experience.
The Foundation has also funded and installed five
Synergistic Career Exploration Labs in intermediate schools
through generous donations from Barrios Technology,
LyondellBasell Industries, The Boeing Company and Nova
Chemicals. These labs guide students through a series of
hands-on activities that help them identify areas of career
interest.
In 2006, the Foundation started assisting teachers who
received their National Teacher Board Certification. The
Foundation reimburses the certification fees, over a four
year period, to teachers that continue their employment
with CCISD.
The Foundation is also starting an initiative to assist in
sponsoring students attending the Early College Campus,
Clear Horizons. This campus allows students to obtain their
high school diploma while simultaneously earning an
associates degree. The program currently has 202 students
with plans to add another freshman class of 110 students in
the 2008-2009 school year. The campus is designed for
highly-capable, highly-motivated, mature students.
The Clear Creek Education Foundation needs your support to
continue our efforts for CCISD. We appreciate your
consideration for a Gala sponsorship. If you have any
questions or would like more information please contact
Jane Sweeney, Gala Chairman at 281-488-4100 or
jane@minutemanpress.com, Gene Hollier at
281-488-3143 or
doddholl@aol.com, or Angela Jenkins, CCEF
Coordinator at 281-284-0031 or
ajenkins@clearcreekeducationfoundation.org. Our
deadline for program recognition is September 19th.
Thank you in advance for your support of the Clear Creek
Education Foundation.Sincerely, |

Outstanding Alumni Awards |

Julie Kilgore-Baker |
Julie Kilgore-Baker, Clear Creek graduate
and recognized as an Outstanding Teenager of America in
1972, has seen many of her dreams come true. Her parents
have both been involved in education with Clear Creek ISD
and instilled in their daughter a love of learning and
excellence. With a Bachelor of Music degree with high
honors from the University of Texas, she began her music
teaching career in Galveston. Kilgore-Baker met her
husband while they were both teaching in Albuquerque and
she made a bold career move and returned to school to
further her education. She was awarded a Master of
Science degree from Stanford University. Since 2001, she
has been the General Manager for ATC-NY in Ithaca, New
York, and leads a group of research scientists conducting
advanced research and software development on computer
security. She is the mother of two children and was
recently elected to serve a two year term as a Village of
Lancing Trustee. |

Dr. Robert Garza |
As the Valedictorian for Clear Creek High
School in 1987, it comes as no surprise that Dr. Robert
Garza has become a recognized leader in his field. He is
the son of two parents who were actively involved with
Clear Creek ISD. His mother is a retired school nurse and
his father taught math for 20 years at Clear Creek High
School. Garza was recognized as a Summa Cum Laude
graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from
Texas A & M University and was awarded a Doctor of
Medicine degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He
completed his Psychiatry residency at the Baylor College
of Medicine in 1999. Garza now serves as the Medical
Director for the Trauma Recovery Program at the Michael
DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston and is an Assistant
Professor at the Baylor College of Medicine. He was
recognized as the Resident Teacher of the Year in 1998.
He and his wife Lisa make their home in Katy, Texas and
he is an active volunteer in the community. |

Bill Wohrer
|
One of the many highlights of William J.
Wohrer’s (aka Bill Moffett) career was receiving the
honor of being inducted into the Sam Houston State
University Broadcasting Hall of Fame, along with Dan
Rather. The 1972 graduate of Clear Creek High School is a
very successful Houston business owner of Moffett
Productions. He has won many Telly and Communicator
Awards for the creative radio and television campaigns he
has produced for both local and national business
accounts. Wohrer was personally chosen by Garth Brooks as
the voice for his advertising and was selected by the
NHRA to produce their 50th anniversary tour. He is a
graduate of Sam Houston State University with a degree in
Radio, Television and Film. He is an active volunteer
with Northwest Assistant Ministries and he and his wife,
Michalene, live in Houston. They have three children and
two of them presently work as broadcasters. |

Dr.
Kathy Jackson-Schmidt |
Dr. Kathy Jackson Schmidt, a Clear Creek
High School graduate of 1973, exemplifies the standards
of excellence exhibited by the Clear Creek Education
Foundation honorees. She graduated with an undergraduate
degree from the University of Texas in Austin and
advanced her education at the University of Hawaii,
earning a Master of Education degree. Jackson Schmidt
returned to Austin and was awarded a PhD in Education
from the University of Texas. She began her career as an
Assistant Instructor in the Department of Curriculum and
Instruction at the University of Texas and has worked in
the educational field for the past 18 years. Since 2002,
Jackson Schmidt has served as the Director of the Faculty
Innovation Center at the Cockrell School of Engineering

Jim & Lee Reinhartsen Jim and Lee
Reinhartsen have made a real difference in the community
and will be recognized for their distinguished service at
the Reach for the Stars Gala with the George Carlisle
Award. Jim and Lee grew up across the street from each
other in Selden, New York. They have been married for 45
years and, in memory of their children, Debbie and Kenny,
the Reinhartsens have established the Kenneth James
Reinhartsen Memorial Scholarship Fund at CCISD and the
Debbie Lee Reinhartsen Scholarship at College of the
Mainland. Reinhartsen received his undergraduate
education at the State University of New York and moved
to the area and he and his wife lived in the Bay Area for
